By means of a unique three-page template, our Inspiring Purpose poster programme has given over 300,000 young people the opportunity to enhance their self-knowledge and self-awareness, analyse their character strengths and challenges, research an inspirational figure and define their aspirations for the future as well as their vision of a better world. The programme is designed to enable young people to find a sense of purpose and translate inspiration into aspiration and constructive action.
I came up with the concept of the Inspiring Purpose Values Poster Award fifteen years ago, inspired by Sir John Templeton’s Laws of Life essay programme and book Worldwide Laws of Life. This material became the basis of Character Scotland’s first Learning for Life website featuring 40 character virtues and values for young people to explore and apply in their lives. The programme later developed into Inspire > Aspire, centred on the London 2012 Olympics and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The current theme is Global Citizens in the Making - Sustainable Futures, now delivered by Association for Character Education.
